Panama and Cuba Parliamentary Relations Described As Positive

Havana, Jul 13 (acn) The leaders of the Cuban and Panamanian 
parliaments signed a joint declaration on Thursday stating the two 
countries' satisfaction with the work done by both sides to strengthen 
bilateral cooperation bonds in several fields.

Cuba's National Assembly President, Ricardo Alarcon, and Panama's 
parliament President, Elias Castillo, signed the document at the end of 
the second session of the 11th Friendship Inter-parliamentarian Meeting 
between Cuba and Panama that is being held in Ciudad Panama.

The Cuban representatives thanked Panama for their constant support of 
the island in the struggle for the lifting of the economic, commercial 
and financial blockade by the U.S against Cuba, says a PL's report.

Cuba also appreciated Panama's participation in the international 
campaign for the liberation of the five Cuban anti-terrorists 
imprisoned in the U.S, while both countries reaffirmed their claim for 
the release of The Five and denounced the human rights violations 
committed by the American authorities against the Cuban men.

Furthermore, the statement mentions the case of worldwide known 
terrorist Luis Posada Carriles, who was set free in the U.S. The 
document says releasing Posada in spite of all the crimes pending on 
him, sets a serious precedent in the American judicial system.

The bonds of friendship between the two countries were also highlighted 
by the parliamentary leaders, who noted the outcome of cooperation 
actions in several fields. These include science, health, education and 
sports.

The document makes reference to the results, described as positive, of 
the recently established Mechanism for Political Consultation between 
the Cuban and Panamanian foreign affairs ministries.
