Cuba-Panama Inter-Parliamentary Meeting Underway

Havana, July 12 (acn) The president of the Cuban Parliament, Ricardo 
AlarcC3n, praised on Wednesday the prominent role that Panama is playing 
in the international arena and highlighted the election of the Central 
American country as a member of the UN Security Council.

During the first day of sessions of the 11th Cuba-Panama 
Inter-Parliamentary Meeting that concludes on Thursday in Panama City, 
the Cuban official also praised Panama's management of the Panama Canal.

Panamanian and Cuban deputies are meeting to discuss cooperation 
initiatives between both legislative bodies and to assess the march of 
bilateral programs on the fields of education, health and sports.

In this regards, they referred to the Operation Miracle free 
eye-surgery program from which more than low-income Panamanians have 
benefited.

Both delegations have also analyzed strategies of joint action and 
mutual support at international meetings of legislative bodies.

The president of the Panamanian Parliament, ElC-as Castillo, said that 
friendship between Cuba and Panama is at one of its highest levels ever.
