Cuban Vaccine Reduces Cattle Mortality

Havana, July 10 (acn) Cattle mortality due to hemo-parasitic diseases
related to ticks has considerably dropped thanks to the implementation
of the home produced GAVAC vaccine.

Experts explained that the product prevents skin deterioration, anaemia,
fever, stress and consequent death.  One of the components of GAVAC is a
natural antigen that stimulates an immune response.

In the central province of Camaguey alone, mortality rate dropped from
2,294 head of cattle in 1993 to 19 deaths in 2006 with the use of the
vaccine, cites an article published by Granma Daily.

The medicament was developed at Havana's Centre of Genetic Engineering
and Biotechnology (CIGB), and it is produced at a sister center in
Camaguey. Production meets domestic demand and export orders.
