Peruvian Governor Announces Extended ALBA

Lima, July 8 (Prensa Latina) Governor of the Peruvian southern Andean
region of Puno, Hernan Fuentes, announced on Sunday the creation of
additional offices of the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas
(ALBA) in his jurisdiction, aimed for cooperation in the health and
education fields.

He explained that a next ALBA headquarters will be opened in Juliaca,
the second largest city of Puno, and announced that others will be set
up in several towns of the said region.

He rejected attacks from government and conservative politicians, and
reiterated that the benefits of ALBA are expressed in health and
educational actions for the least-favored sectors.

Local opponents consider the anti-ALBA attacks are part of a maneuver
to divert attention from a wave of social protests and say government
must keep electoral promises instead of inventing external enemies.
