Cuban Doctors to Assist Recent Nicaraguan Med School Graduates

Havana, July 6 (acn) Cuban doctors will tutor Nicaraguan nationals who 
recently graduated from medical school in Cuba at two rural hospitals 
proposed for construction in the Central American nation.

The facilities will be built on the Atlantic coast in the 
municipalities of Waspan and Muelle de los Bueyes, in the South 
Atlantic Autonomous Region (RAAS). The centers will benefit from the 
aid of the Cuban specialists and will help attend to low-income 
indigenous families who were neglected in the past, said Nicaraguan 
Health Minister (MINSA)Fatima Diaz.

Three ophthalmologic centers are at different stages of construction, 
with one of them already providing services in Ciudad Sandino, 13 
kilometers west of the capital Managua. A team of Cuban doctors there 
perform some sixty surgeries daily.

The additional two centers will later be located in the port cities of 
Bluefields, 383 kilometers southeast of Managua; and in Puerto Cabezas, 
557 kilometers northeast of the capital.
