[NYTr] Terrorist Attacks Against Cuba: A July Tradition Date: Wed, 4 Jul 2007 15:34:40 -0500 (CDT) Via NY Transfer News Collective * All the News that Doesn't Fit Agencia Cubana de Noticias (ACN) http://ainch.ain.cu/mailman/listinfo/ingles Terrorist Attacks Against Cuba: A July Tradition By Roberto Perez Betancourt AIN Special Service edited by NY Transfer News Documented over the last 38 years, more than 70 terrorist acts against Cuba were carried out by terrorists during the month of July, supported by successive US administrations and including at least 15 assassinations and dozens of wounded. The criminal actions by groups organized, trained and financed by the US Central Intelligence Agency have targeted economic, political and social sectors on the island. They have caused tragedies and have affected the economic interests of some twenty nations from 1960 to 1998. The terrorism included armed attacks against defenseless families, hijacking planes and vessels, planting bombs and other horrendous incidents. These criminal actions by enemies of the Revolution, which continue to this day, also included people and establishments inside the US -- mainly Miami -- as well as Jamaica, Canada, and Puerto Rico. France, Panama, Italy, Spain, Barbados, Mexico, Colombia, Costa Rica, Peru and Britain have also suffered the consequences. Obviously, the aggressive interests of the terrorists and their sponsors do not recognize limits nor respect borders, showing disrespect towards the international community of nations. Air piracy has been felt mainly during the month of July with the complicity of the US administration. On July 3rd, 1961, the guard of a Cubana Airliner en route from Havana to Camaguey was seriously wounded when the plane was hijacked and taken to the US. The craft was not returned, inflicting $160,000 damage to Cuba. On the same date, an agricultural Piper PA-18 plane from the province of Matanzas, 100 kilometres east of Havana, was also hijacked. It was never returned, inflicting more loss. The complicity of the US authorities in these criminal actions is clear. On July 4th, 1992, terrorists coming from the US attacked economic installations on the Havana coasts. After being detected by Cuban defense forces, the attackers deployed toward the waters close to Varadero, 130 kilometres east of the capital, where their vessel suffered a mechanical failure. The US Coast Guard rescued them and proved that they were carrying weapons, which were confiscated. However, after an FBI interrogation in the US, the terrorists were simply set free despite the evidence against them. Such events have been repeated throughout the history of aggression against Cuba. On July 9th, 1976, a bomb went off after being placed in one of the suitcases on board a Cubana airliner en route from Kingston to Havana. Due to delays in the flight, the explosion occurred on land. This was only the prelude to the bombing in October of a Cubana airliner over Barbados, killing 73 people on board. The intellectual authors of this massacre are now walking the streets of Miami, released and protected by the governments of Bush Senior and George W. Bush. They are Luis Posada Carriles and Orlando Bosch, two of the main organizers of terrorist actions against Cuba throughout this sad history. They are not the only ones; there are others who are also walking the streets of southern Florida, where they enjoy impunity given to them by the Bush clan. * ================================================================ .NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems .
