Peru's Foreign Minister Belittles ALBA; Venezuela Takes Offense

Caracas, Jul 5 (Prensa Latina) Venezuela demanded on Thursday that the
Peruvian Foreign Minister rectify his criticism against the Bolivarian
Alternative for the Americas, because they are offensive and
unfortunate.

Garcia Belaunde called ALBA "a piece of paper with letterhead," which
Venezuelan Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro said was an offense to the
peoples and governments of Venezuela Bolivia, Nicaragua, and Cuba.

In a separate meeting, during a celebration of the 196th anniversary of
the Venezuelan independence, Maduro also asked Peruvian authorities if
they want bilateral relations based on equality, or "abuse and attacks."

He said ALBA is a humanitarian project in diverse fields, and benefits
millions of people, who have learned to read and write or received free
medical assistance.

He recalled that in a recent summit, 12 projects for industrial
development were signed including oil, gas, and others, as never seen
before in the region.

Maduro explained that the ALBA is fully operational, and has flexible
mechanisms to allow its articulation with governors, mayors, and worker
movements, with due respect to each nations sovereignty.
