[NYTr] European Support for Cuban 5 on the Rise Date: Wed, 4 Jul 2007 12:54:54 -0500 (CDT) Via NY Transfer News Collective * All the News that Doesn't Fit Agencia Cubana de Noticias (ACN) http://ainch.ain.cu/mailman/listinfo/ingles European Support for Cuban Five on the Rise Havana, Jul 4 (acn) The movement for the liberation of the five Cubans unfairly imprisoned in the U.S is spanning throughout Europe in all political, social and media circles. Pedro Holmedo, with the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP), told ACN news agency that all 110 committees in favor of the Five's cause that have been created in 30 countries of the region are actively working to bring political parties, parliaments and youth sectors into reflection on the fact that the imprisonment of the five Cuban men is absurd. Ever since Fernando GonzC!lez, Antonio Guerrero, Gerardo HernC!ndez, RamC3n LabaC1ino and RenC) GonzC!lez, internationally known as the Five, were sentenced in a biased trial in Miami, European friends of Cuba have been demanding the release of the men, as they are serving long unfair sentences for having infiltrated Miami-based anti-Cuba groups to prevent terrorist actions against the island. Holmedo pointed out that the American government has repeatedly violated the rights of the Cuban men. He mentioned that they were deprived of receiving family visits and that they have been put into solitary confinement without any reasonable grounds. Meanwhile, countless actions in favor of their release have been carried out by a growing European movement, he said. Actions include meetings and conferences aimed at spreading the truth about the case. Letters expressing support to them have been sent to the Five as well. In addition, the relatives of the five Cuban heroes have been invited to travel to some countries in the region as an opportunity to speak up for their release and denounce the international law violations committed during the legal process. At this moment, the men are waiting for an oral hearing scheduled for August 20 after their defense lawyers appealed once again to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta. * ================================================================ .NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems .
