Venezuela Parliament Backs Chavez about MERCOSUR

Caracas, Jul 4 (Prensa Latina) The Venezuelan National Assembly backed
on Wednesday the position of President Hugo Chavez, who rejected to
accept conditions for becoming a member of the Southern Common Market
(MERCOSUR).

An agreement adopted by the legislative authority also exhorts to a
comprehensive debate among the political, economic, and social sectors
to strengthen and broadening the government position.

The Venezuelan parliament decided to invite Foreign Minister Nicolas
Maduro to report on the situation caused by the delay in VenezuelaB4s
adhesion to MERCOSUR, due to the position of Brazilian and Paraguayan
rightwing legislators.

Those congresspersons have delayed parliamentarian confirmation in
their respective countries, leading President ChavezB4 on Tuesday to
report that he will only wait three more months or he will withdraw his
application.

Foreign Policy Committee President Saul Ortega, who attended the third
MERCOSUR parliamentarian meeting, recently held Asuncion, defended the
position of entering the regional organization, but without conditions.
