A dozen countries have united into a common market, which so far favors trade of merchandise, services, and employment categories. As a premise for the creation of CSME next year, it will also encourage development programs for disadvantaged members. All CSME projects are designed to make the region become more competitive in the international market, said Owen Arthur, Barbados Prime Minister and President of CARICOM before 300 participants. "Integration is a historical need", he added. CARICOM Single Market and Economy will encourage a faster and wider internal market for Caribbean countries, which should be able to sub-contract off-region companies. A revival of agriculture based on an initiative of Guyana's President Bharrat Jagdeo is among the actions to be taken after this 28th CARICOM Summit. According to Arthur, during the next eighteen months the group will focus on new investment codes and free movement of goods, labor and services across the member states. * ================================================================ .NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems .
