Uruguay Plans to Launch Cuban Literacy Method Throughout Country Havana, July 3 (acn) After a successful test on a local district of the capital city Montevideo, Uruguay has decided to launch the Cuban literacy program Yo si puedo (Yes, I Can) in the rest of the country. Some 10,000 Uruguayans over 18 years old should learn how to read and write in the next stage, said Social Development Ministry official Yamandu Ferraz. The Cuban method has been acknowledged by UNESCO and has benefited over two million people from fifteen nations so far. It is adapted to fit each country's language or linguistic norm, customs, and idiosyncrasies. In Uruguay, the program will have the name of "En el pais de Varela Yo si puedo" (In the Country of Varela, Yes I can), recalling the local education reformist Jose Pedro Varela. * ================================================================ .NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems .
