As happened in recent regional meetings, economic and trade affairs related to the creation of the Single Market Economy (MEUC) in 2008 will be also analyzed by chiefs of Government. According to general secretary Edwin Carrington, deliberations in the Barbadian capital"s Hilton Hotel focus on the high price of transportation, AIDS, public safety and others of social interest. The CARICOM Summit began Sunday in the Parliament headquarters, from where participants went to the Independence Square in Bridgetown, to pay tribute to this country"s National Hero Errol Barrow. ef iff cm mf PL-26 *** CARICOM Talks with US Congress Member Rangel Georgetown, Jul 2 (Prensa Latina) Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) met with the US House Ways and Means Committee Chairman of the US Congress, Charles Rangel (Dem.)in Barbados. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 28th MERCOSUR Summit with the objective to review results of recent talks between CARICOM and US President George W. Bush, Prime Minister of Barbados, Owen Arthur, announced. "We will review agreements reached in the Summit Caribbean US in Washington on June 19-21 and pave the way for strengthened links with the US Congress, leading to a modern, vibrant and win-win relation," he said. Rangel is seen in the Community as a valued friend, who makes sure that the US Congress pays attention to the bloc, said Arthur.
