The initiative, which this year focuses on the elderly, is run by over 130 Pastors for Peace volunteers from the US, Canada and Europe in defiance on Washington's travel restrictions to the island. According to New York transfer network, the group travelling in 14 busses will traverse 14 separate routes stopping in 47 US states and 6 Canadian provinces, and will meet on July 17 in Tampico, Mexico, from where the shipment will be brought to Cuba. The humanitarian aid includes educational and medical supplies, as well as nursing-home specific supplies such as walkers, crutches, and dental supplies. In statements to the press, executive Director of the Interreligious Foundation for Community Organization (IFCO), Rev. Lucius Walker Jr., harshly criticized the travel restrictions to the island imposed by Washington on US citizens. "IFCO/Pastors for Peace rejects this licensing system as both immoral and illegal. It is immoral because it endangers the lives of millions of Cubans and inflicts suffering on innocent children, as well as adults," said Walker. Since 1992 Pastors for Peace has used hunger strikes and mass mobilizations to successfully challenge US government attempts to confiscate vehicles and humanitarian aid bound for Cuba. They have thus far delivered more than 2,500 tons of urgently needed assistance to the Cuban people without seeking a US Treasury license. * ================================================================ .NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems .
