Washington Protects Terrorists, US Lawyer Says

Caracas, Jul 1 (Prensa Latina) Recent statements by US Ambassador to
Venezuela William Brownfield are proof that Washington protects
terrorist Luis Posada Carriles, US Attorney Eva Golinger said.

In an article published in local media, the researcher recalled that
Washington refuses to extradite Posada Carriles, who was the brains
behind the blowing-up of a Cuban civilian airplane in 1976 in
midflight, although Caracas has repeatedly asked for his extradition on
the basis of a bilateral agreement signed in 1922.

"Brownfield's comment on the case not only reaffirms the thesis of this
writer that he will never be extradited but it demonstrates the level
of cynicism, evilness and hypocrisy of that official and the government
he represents," Golinger pointed out.

She rejected the US diplomat's statement that "Posada Carriles is a
79-year-old man who appears to suffer from cancer. It is quite evident
that he is not an imminent threat to anyone."

Osama bin Laden added Golinger is also sick with kidney problems and is
an old man, then, B?does it mean that if they found him they would set
him free? B?Or is a 79-year-old man incapable of committing criminal or
terrorist acts?

It would be better that Washington's spokespersons just say that the
terrorist will not be extradited because he has faithfully served that
government and they will protect him, instead of bare-facedly insulting
the intelligence of our peoples, the researcher added.

Last week, Venezuelan Ambassador to the US Bernardo Alvarez described
Brownfield's statement that the criminal "he is not a threat to anyone"
as cynical.

According to Alvarez, that opinion contradicts Washington's statement
that whoever protects or does not try a terrorist also becomes a
terrorist, while the world observes with astonishment the double
standard of the US government.
