FAO Praises Cuban Efforts in Food Production

Havana, Sept 11 (acn) The permanent representative of the UN Food and 
Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Cuba, Maria Luisa Cardenas, praised 
on Monday the efforts made on the island to improve the production of 
food.

During the inauguration of the 2nd Integral Training Course on 
Irrigation that began at Havana's Convention Center, the UN official 
also commended an initiative to train farmers from all across the 
island in the use of new techniques to boost national agriculture.

"Today, humanity looks for new and viable alternatives to optimize the 
use of water and energy in agriculture," said Cardenas. "It is 
essential to promote events, like this Congress, to spread the existing 
knowledge on these techniques," she added.

World renowned specialists from Italy and Spain are participating in 
this event, which is being attended by nearly 250 delegates from the 
island's 14 provinces and the Isle of Youth Special Municipality.

Participants are also discussing about the effective exploitation of 
equipment and resources and the appropriate selection of technologies.
