Dom Rep: Admiral Discounts Story of Military Coup Attempt

Santo Domingo, Sep 8 (Prensa Latina) The Chief of the National
Investigation Bureau (NIB), vice admiral Sigdfrido Pared, said that a
possibility of a military coup in Dominican Republic is the thinking of
someone out of his right mind.

"The country does not have conditions for a conspiracy of this type
succeeds," asserted Pared to the press accredited at the National
Palace.

The statements follow an interview of top military commands and
ex-guerrilla Claudio CaamaC1o and a meeting with the government
chiefs with the President of the Republic Leonel Fernandez.

CaamaC1o, cousin of the deceased ex-military and guerrilla chief
Francisco CaamaC1o, said that several active colonels came to him to
obtain support in a movement to establish a dictatorial government and
reiterated his accusations to the government leaders.

But he refrained from identifying his interlocutors adding that, in
any case, he would back constitutionality despite of his deep
disagreements with the current government.

The top leaders met the dignitary at the House of Government early this
week and describe the meeting as "routine."

Nevertheless, Vice-Admiral Pared agreed that investigations must be
opened.
