[NYTr] Coke Trafficking: Venezuela Says US Faking the Data Date: Tue, 3 Jul 2007 16:24:05 -0500 (CDT) Via NY Transfer News Collective * All the News that Doesn't Fit Prensa Latina, Havana http://www.plenglish.com Venezuela Says US Alters Drug Data Caracas, Jul 3 (Prensa Latina) Venezuela's National Drug Office (ONA) denied US charges of a rising incidence in cocaine trafficking to the United States. The ONA termed it "odd" that the US could claim an annual 30 ton growth since 2002, to 300 tons in 2006, after the United Nations lauded Venezuela's anti-drug effort. The 2007 UN World Drug Report assessed the cocaine into the United States in 2005 was 450 tons, half from the Andean region and 38 percent through the Caribbean. It is better for Caribbean traffickers to go through Colombia, so less than 54 tons (12 percent) go via other routes, including Venezuela. Attention is also called by the US non-interception of "suspicious" flights in the Caribbean after the US DEA detected them, given its power to act under regional accords. The ONA also called it hypocritical to blame Venezuela for suspicious flights over the Caribbean when the aircraft was bought in the Nevada desert at convenient prices and no questions asked. ef ccs emw ml PL-30 * ================================================================ .NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems .
