The Five Capture Mainstream US Press Attention

Cienfuegos, Cuba, Oct 15 (Prensa Latina) The case of The Five
anti-terrorist Cuban fighters held in US prisons has started to capture
US press interest in the last few months, said lawyer Roberto Gonzalez.

In his capacity as defense lawyer of his brother Rene, one of The Cuban
Five, since 1999 Gonzalez has been part of the team pursuing also the
release of Gerardo Fernandez, Ramon Labanino, Antonio Guerrero and
Fernando Gonzalez.

He recalled remarks made by US Attorney General Ramsey Clark, who said
that this proceeding will be recorded in history as a disgrace to US
judicial system.

The trial held for seven months against The Five in Miami can be
considered among the most important in US judicial history, said
Gonzalez. However, the US media hardly attended the hearings and, when
they did, they barely reported on the issue, which proves the trial was
unfair, as it was politically motivated.

The Cuban lawyer recalled that in the last few months, ABC network
published an exclusive interview with Gerardo Hernandez, who was given
two life sentences and 15 years, and last week, a German journalist
published another interview and there are similar requests from other
US media.
