Plaza de Mayo Mothers Hail Dirty War Priest's Sentence, Condemn Church 

Buenos Aires, Oct 12 (Prensa Latina) The Association "Madres de Plaza
de Mayo" celebrated their success in getting repressive priest
Christian von Wernich condemned, while it accused the Catholic Church
of complicity.

In a message read by Evel de Petrini, leader of that organization,
published Friday, it was highlighted that the 30 years-fight of that
Mothers organization denouncing and persecuting the former police
chaplain succeeded to obtain he was prosecuted for genocide crimes on
October 9.

He stressed that Von Wernich "committed horrors seeking protection in
the faith of the others and in the complicity of the Church".

He added that the life imprisonment sentence establishes a great
precedent and shows, mainly to young people, that we must not stop
fighting although long time passes.

"The Church that defended, protected, and covered him up all the time
transferring and hiding him, is an accomplice and certainly played its
part too", De Petrini stressed.
