The Executive highlighted Cuba, together with other countries of the Southern Cone, by their indicators with respect to food security, nutrition and other studies carried out in the region. In response to a question by Prensa Latina, Graziano recalled that Cuba has for a long time a basic food hamper guaranteed, "provided to its people through a system different than the market". On the other hand, he expressed his concern over some countries of the region that still face difficulties to achieve UN proposed goals. After affirming that "to eradicate hunger costs less than coexisting with it", he emphasized it is about a moral effort which lacks political will. He announced that FAO, the World Food Program and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) will request the 17th Ibero American Summit, of November, to prioritize the eradication of hunger and children malnutrition to obtain social cohesion. ef gdb jl * ================================================================= NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems Since 1985 - Information for the Rest of Us Our main website: http://www.blythe.org List Archives: http://blythe-systems.com/pipermail/nytr/ Subscribe: http://blythe-systems.com/mailman/listinfo/nytr =================================================================
