During a ceremony in honor to Cuban National Hero Jose Marti at the Revolution Square Memorial, Araujo said this visit to Cuba is aimed at strengthening the bonds between the two nations. He emphasized that even though the two countries have different social models, both governments are engaged in joint projects for mutual cooperation. Araujo mentioned the Cuba-Venezuela-led eye treatment project, known as Operation Miracle. He noted that more than 700 Colombians have recovered their vision thanks to the program. Likewise, 42,000 people from the South American country have learned how to read and write after the implementation of the Cuban literacy method Yo Si Puedo (Yes I can). In addition, nearly 60 Cubans are also collaborating in areas such as construction, culture, sports and the sugar industry. The Colombian Foreign Minister is expected to meet his Cuban counterpart Felipe Perez Roque Monday afternoon.
