No Consensus over APEC Enlargement

Sydney, Sep 5 (Prensa Latina) Ministers of the Asia-Pacific Economic
Cooperation Forum met in Sydney Wednesday and agreed to reinforce
safety of food and other products, as well as support the WTO Doha
Round on free trade.

However they failed to reach consensus over possible inclusion of new
members to the 21-country bloc when the 1997 moratorium on new
admissions expires this year.

There are at least 12 APEC hopefuls, including Colombia, Costa Rica,
Ecuador, and Panama.
