All 112 countries attending the NAM Ministerial Meeting on Human Rights and Cultural Diversity, which concluded here today, issued a declaration acknowledging Chavez's efforts to contribute to a humanitarian agreement in Colombia. We welcome and back "in an enthusiastic way the support role of the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez Frias, in the search of humanitarian solutions in the Republic of Colombia," the document says. Chavez's efforts are aimed at reaching an agreement between the government of President Alvaro Uribe and the FARC, including the release of Colombian citizens held by the guerrilla organization. On Friday, Chavez traveled to Colombia, where he met with Uribe, paving the way for a humanitarian agreement between the government and the insurgents, and strengthening bilateral ties. Chavez's visit was preceded by a meeting in Caracas on August 20 among the Venezuelan president, relatives of people held by the guerrillas and Liberal Senator Piedad Cordoba. The meeting was resumed in Bogota. The Venezuelan head of State also met with representatives of Colombian political, economic and social sectors. ef jg jcd * ================================================================= .NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems .
