Oscar Arnulfo Romero. Extending greetings from President Chavez, Carreno said the forum on social justice will address key social matters to promote humankind, adding that for the president, the social doctrines of the Catholic Church coincide with those of the Revolution. The event shows the revolutionary feelings of Venezuelan priests who address social issues like poverty and exclusion despite threats from the Church hierarchy to withdraw their parishes if they attend the event. The Reflexion closes Wednesday with the tribute to Monsignor Romero at Miraflores Palace and the conclusions from the panels convened in four neighborhoods in Caracas. hr/ccs/emw fgn *** [The Venezuelan gusanos continue to think it's less humiliating to boycott, or withdraw from, elections than to lose them in a landslide.] Venezuelan Opposition Plans to Boycott Referendum by Miguel Lozano Caracas, Aug 14 (Prensa Latina) The Venezuelan opposition is weighing the possibility of calling the people to abstain from voting on a constitutional reform, due to courage and determination of President Hugo Chavez. The secretary general of the Democratic Action Party, Henry Ramos Allup, suggested the analysis of that option, which was already implemented in the parliamentary elections in 2005, when the presence of opponents was vetoed in Parliament. In an interview with the private TV station Globovision, Ramos said that if the opposition is not certain about winning the referendum, it would have to unify the forces that oppose Chavez to boycott the plebiscite. The Venezuelan president announced a constitutional reform to guarantee the foundations of socialism in the country, prioritizing the People's Power, a new political administrative distribution and the strengthening of social property. Chavez has told critics that the proposal must be approved by the people at a national referendum that will decide whether they approve of the changes. Ramos's suggestion appears to confirm criteria by observers and surveys about the existence of a major support for the constitutional reform and the weakening of the opposition. Vice President Jorge Rodriguez said on Monday that the opposition will call the people to abstain because the support from the Venezuelan people is decreasing, so it resorts to kick the table, to stage a coup d'etat. He added that one of the tragedies affecting the national political sector is that the opposition "abandons the alleged democratic vocation it had very easily." hr/jg/ml *** Venezuelan Minister Warns About Media Attacks on Government Caracas, Aug 14 (Prensa Latina) Venezuela's Minister of Energy and Oil Rafael Ramirez warned on Tuesday about media attacks against the national government, based on an alleged illegal dollar trafficking to Argentina. In a statement to En Confianza program, of Venezolana de Television channel, the minister said that the investigation on the suitcase found in that country with about $ 800,000 are underway. Regarding this topic, Ramirez said that Petroleos de Venezuela S.A. (PDVSA) has already issued an official report, and released inquiries to the passengers of the plane in which the man with the suitcase was captured. Due to this, said Ramirez, we have to warn people to avoid manipulation and stay alert since anything can come from the media. We have to be clear, added the minister, since this is part of a fighting that did not end with the defeat of the coup dCB4 etat or the end of the oil sabotage. Ramirez mentioned the coincidence of the release of the events with the arrival of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez in Argentina, and even that the media tried to link the member of the official delegation with the incident. The events unleashed a kind of media lynching, expressed Ramirez, with the same old channels broadcasting in a stage that recalls us the episode of the oil sabotage. sus/ajs/mem * ================================================================= .NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems .
