Calderon asserted the bill aimed to increase tax collection in order to stop and reduce inequality and poverty of most Mexicans, is subject to revision, because there is no will to improve the proposal. The president said poverty will not be eradicated only with philanthropic actions, and in this stand, he gathered the support of Mexican businesspeople and politicians to achieve approval of the tax initiative. The government proposal has been criticized by business sectors and opposition political parties that consider it incomplete and discriminatory, because it imposes taxes on the emergent economy while benefiting large monopolies.
