It is this Bill that Chaffee has Pork Barrelled the Anti-Indian Clause for only the Narragansett Tribe. This is a definate attack on the Sovereignty of the Tribe. What can be done?? Please send this message to that list of people that you send your messages to, asking for help. Thursday morning by noon if possible pleas call Senator Robert Byrd, Dem West Virginia (202) 224 3954 and Sen Trent Lott Rep. Mississippi (202) 224-6253. These Senators are potential Friends and have some influence on the Floor. Please call and say " I support the Narragansett Indian Tribe and I oppose the amendment by Senator Chaffee to the appropriations bill which singles out the Narragansetts from all other Tribes and depribes the Tribe of its sovereign rights without a public hearing. His amendment says that the Tribe's federal reservation "shall not be treated as Indian Lands." Don't permit Senator Chaffee to take away what the law says we are allowed to do, like every other federally recon\gnized tribe in the country. Indian people don't deserve such treatment.
