For me, Arvol's call came with astonishing synchronicity. Hiroshima Day 1992, I was in Wisconsin to research a story on hazards of electricity leaking from power lines, tour Wisconsin's many "Indian" mounds and visit an Oneida Indian near Green Bay. While helping a poet and midwfe move their home, my left hand touched a 6,000 volt powerline. Scorched and unconscious, I slid off a sheet metal roof to fall 15 feet onto my upper back, fracturing several ribs and vertebrae, including shattering T-5. I didn't die, nor am I paralyzed, but in slow, painful recovery. Right hand fingers remain paralyzed; I type with three fingers on my left. My left leg_senseless and motionless after my brush with death_ slowly grows strong and functional; on good days I walk to the corner with a walker and pedal an exercycle three miles. After three years of intense pain, disability and institutionalization, in 1995 I began to regenerate. And to organize scattered, shattered fragments of my life. Mid-October I opened a box of three years' accumulated letters. Amid this I found a photo of the white buffalo calf (now named "Miracle") taken a few days after her birth Aug. 20, 1994 in Wisconsin_two years and a few miles from my hospital. I taped this photo by my computer. Three days later, by email, I got Arvol's call for World Peace and Prayer Day. * as naturalist seeing weak, collapsing local & global ecosystems, * as world citizen watching fragile efforts to end war & bloodshed, * as friend of indigenous peoples of the Western Hemisphere, * as geomancer studying sacred space & time on a living planet, * as templar dream dismantle forts and rebuild earth temples, * as spiritual man attentive to prophecy and Cycles of the Ages, I immediately recognized the urgent truth of Arvol's call. Decision Time has come: we must unite heart & mind in coherent prayer at Earth's holy places. Despite busy-ness, disabilities, pain, and poverty, I chose to distribute Arvol's call. Rummaging my files, I found old email from Robin Arnhold, who saw the white buffalo calf eight days after its birth. I editted her firsthand report as Background to Arvol's message to make a simple poster. Next day I was taken to New York's Catskill Mountains where Wallace Black Elk, Lakota medicine man, was conducting sweat lodges; I was invited for special healing. As we left I finished a letter to National Public Radio on coverage of the United Nation's 50th Anniversary. I showed Wallace my poster. He slowly, carefully read every word. And gave his approval. I read Wallace my letter to National Public Radio. He approved. I told Wallace I returned from death's door on a mission. Part is to found a new nation based on the best Natural & Hue-man Law (Ecology & Democracy) -- a Green Nation. Wallace approved. I urge each and every all of you to: * mark June 21, 1996 on your calendars as a Day of Prayer for World Peace * distribute Arvol's call to friends, neighbors, family, church, and other communities * encourage publication and wide public distribution of Arvol's call * urge religious and civic leaders to declare June 21, 1996 World Peace and Prayer Day and lead their communities in prayer services * organize a ceremony at a sacred place to pray at Summer Solstice for healing of Earth, Nature and Hue-manity I'll mail, fax or email this poster, letter and related materials to anyone who sends me their address, fax no. or email address.
