Bolivian Literacy Campaign Includes Indigenous Languages

La Paz, October 11 (RHC-Granma)-- The Aymara and Quecha indigenous people
in Bolivia will be taught how to read and write in their own languages
starting in November as part of a new phase in Bolivia's literacy campaign
using the Yo Si Puedo (Yes I Can) method developed by Cuba.

The literacy drive in those languages will cover both rural and urban areas
and will be followed by the Guarani language, according to the Bolivian
Ministry of Education. Prensa Latina news agency reports that by the end of
October, the video classes with the participation of indigenous people will
be ready as well as the reading primer in those languages.

The literacy campaign in Bolivia is being conducted with the support of
Cuba and Venezuela. Its primary goal is to do away with illiteracy in the
South American country by 2008.
