Literacy Campaign in Bolivia Reaches Indigenous People

Havana, Oct 11 (ACN) The Cuban teaching method Yo Si Puedo (Yes I Can) 
has reached the inner sites in Bolivia, as Aymara and Quecha indigenous 
people in the country will be taught how to read and write in their own 
languages using the Cuban method as part of a new phase in Bolivia's 
literacy campaign.

The literacy drive in those languages will cover both rural and urban 
areas starting in  November and will be followed by the Guarani 
language, according to Ministry of Education sources cited by Prensa 
Latina news agency.

The same source noted that by the end of October the video lessons with 
the participation of indigenous people will be ready as well as the 
reading primer in those languages.

The literacy campaign in Bolivia is being conducted with the support of 
Cuba and Venezuela. Its primary goal is to do away with illiteracy in 
the South American country by 2008.
