What was expected to be a rain soaked morning turned out to be a crisp, clear, beautiful November day. The first event, following the initial prayer, was a presentation by a Palestinian dance group which was followed by a speech by Palestinian Elias Rishmawi that connected the Palestinian struggle to that of Native Americans. The morning's program was broadcast nationally over Pacifica radio which would not have been possible had the International Boatmens Union not withdrawn its scheduled picketing of the dock since the radio broadcasters from Berkeley's KPFA, as union members, would not have been able to cross the picket line, as no doubt, would have been many who had arrived to take part in the ceremony, When the celebrants returned, the IBU was there on the sidewalk in front of the dock with its regularly scheduled picket line to greet them and every one was satisfied. Thanks to all of you who sent emails to officials of the IBU supporting the International Indian Treaty Council's request that the planned early morning picket be canceled. * ================================================================ .NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems .
