On Saturday, July 29, 2006, the celebration in New York City of the
July 26, 1953 attack on the Moncada Barracks of the US-backed Batista
dictatorship, which opened the victorious Cuban Revolution, will take
place. The annual event is sponsored by the July 26 Coalition of
dozens of organizations working together in a spirit of unity and
solidarity. The event this year will be special, focusing on the
internationalism and solidarity of the Cuban Revolution as the
people's struggles for freedom, justice, and equality continue to
rise and deepen throughout the Americas. CSNY strongly urges all of
our members, supporters, friends, and contacts to attend this
important event which will be held at the Martin Luther King Labor
Center Auditorium, 310 West 43rd Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues,
in Manhattan.

Our distinguished featured speakers will be Cuban and Venezuelan
Ambassadors to the United Nations as well as a representative of the
deepening revolutionary process in Bolivia. See the attached leaflets
in English and Spanish, which can be downloaded and printed for
distribution and forwarded to your listserves. There will also be
musical presentations, a catered meal, and a dance party afterwards. 

The world political situation-highlighted today by the horrific
bombardment of civilians and destruction of economic infrastructure
in Lebanon by US-backed and armed Israel-continues to be explosive.
The decaying and outrageously unequal world imperialist order
continues to lurch from crisis to crisis. However, as this deadly
reality unfolds we see today in the Americas, an alternative based on
solidarity and human needs, social equality and personal dignity,
beginning to emerge, shouting out that Another and Better World is
Possible! The ideals and example of the Cuban Revolution are starting
to spread. The power of these ideas and this example, represented by
revolutionary leaderships that know how to act politically and
intelligently, is unstoppable. Of course, Washington and its European
imperialist allies, acting through their servile clients in the
oligarchies in Latin America, are feverishly working to create the
conditions for a counter-offensive in the Americas. Confrontations
and the threat of imperialist intervention and aggression against
Cuba, Venezuela, and Bolivia are inevitable and, in fact, are already
unfolding. 

That is why this year's July 26 Celebration on July 29 is so
important. It is another step toward building a national, mass
movement in the US demanding Hands Off Cuba, Venezuela, and Bolivia!
The July 29 event will also kick off an intense fall of solidarity
activities in New York City and nationally. We are already planning
for this fall's United Nations summit where heads of state and
governments from around the world will be in New York City. We are
preparing to organize a monster solidarity rally here to welcome
leaders from Cuba, Venezuela, and Bolivia to New York City and the
United States. Also on September 12 there will big a public
demonstration in New York, demanding freedom for the Cuban Five, as
part of an international month of solidarity will the five
anti-terrorist patriots.
