Indians Protest War Games with USA

Calcutta, India, Nov 7 (Prensa Latina) Thousands of people are demonstrating
on Monday in the Indian Midnapore district, in rejection of the joint war
games the US and Indian air forces started in the West Bengal state.

Those military drills are being held in Kaliaikunda air force base, in the
surrounding areas of highly populated Calcutta, with participation of an
F-16 Falcon squadron from the Pentagon.

The maneuvers, which will be until November 19, are happening under strong
security measures, with barricades in the area around the military air force
base.

The peaceful demonstrations have been held in Midnapore for several days,
convoked by Indian leftwing political groups that have announced
mobilization of more than three million people.

The Indian Marxist Communist Party in West Bengal issued a communique to the
press denouncing that the military exercises are not in the strategic
interests of the Asian country.
