A happy birthday Party Mdori. 

 

 

It has been a year of excitement, growth and reward.  We remember those who left us and enjoy the arrival of those who have joined us.  Individually, we can be pleased to have experienced another year and optimistic about our prospects for the next. 

 

We will remember the gestation period of stress and uncertainty as Tariana and her family repulsed the attacks, denied the temptations and made the call.  Their act of faith combined with that of the Sharples household, the brilliance of the Hikoi and those behind it and the clarity of the intention of these people encouraged the rest of us to board the waka and commit to the vision for this Nation that was shaped nearly two centuries ago. 

 

The electorate and list candidates who have stood up, the 19,000 members who have paid up and the hundreds of thousands of citizens of this Land who are looking up are testimony that the Party that we created twelve months ago is well poised to move the Nation forward and create our tomorrow. 

 

Without the inspirational endeavours of our co-leaders, the mobile engine room that Helen Leahy is and the work of the many around the Country, it is difficult to imagine how we could have reached where we are today, 11 July 2005.  We would not have.  As a people we have not been here before.  We are within two ticks of rangatiratanga and kawanatanga sitting together in Parliament. 

 

Let's celebrate our launching of a year ago, reaffirm our commitment to the kaupapa that make us distinctive and take opportunities to encourage the Nation to look our way on election day. 

 

Happy birthday Pdti Mdori.
