Dear Roger,

As Sea Shepherd enters its fourth decade of direct action on the high seas, I am inspired by the support we receive from people like you--people who value our oceans and wish to protect their inhabitants.

Your support helps Sea Shepherd give a voice to the voiceless and defend marine wildlife around the world. We are currently working to defend dolphins in Japan and bring international media attention to the plight of sharks in the Galapagos. Keep reading to find out more!
Campaign Begins in Tokyo for the Dolphins and Children of Japan
Toxic Lunch

In an effort to protect both dolphins and children, Sea Shepherd activists began a campaign in the heart of Tokyo last week to bring attention to a Japanese national scandal.

Tokyo SignSea Shepherd launched the campaign on September 25-Dolphin Day-to protest the killing of tens of thousands of defenseless dolphins and the government-sanctioned feeding of their toxic meat to innocent Japanese school children.

Persia White Holds Press Conference in Tokyo

Persia WhiteActress and Sea Shepherd Director Persia White is calling a media conference in Tokyo to deliver petitions to the Japanese Minister of Health and appeal to him to stop the poisoning of rural school children in Japan who are fed mercury-contaminated dolphin meat via their school lunch programs.

Yahoo! Invests in Shark Finning

Sea Shepherd was recently alerted to Yahoo! Inc.'s investment in the deplorable shark fin industry. Yahoo! is a 40% owner of Alibaba, a Chinese company that trades in shark fins and contributes to the senseless and agonizing deaths of sharks worldwide.

We have received numerous inquiries in recent weeks about the removal of our listings from GoodSearch and Freelanthropy Search, search engines that contribute a portion of the proceeds from each search to the nonprofit organization of the user's choice. Regrettably, these search engines are powered by Yahoo!, and despite our support of their mission in theory, Sea Shepherd simply cannot in good conscience benefit from a company such as Yahoo! that invests in the despicable shark fin industry.

Last month, Captain Watson wrote a letter to Yahoo! asking, "Is this the legacy that you want Yahoo to leave-the destruction of the world's sharks for shark fin soup in China?" He did not receive a reply.

We urge you to voice your opposition to shark finning. Tell Yahoo! and its partners that you will avoid using their services until they STOP condoning the violent murder of innocent sharks.

Sea Shepherd Welcomes New Board Member:                Susan Weingartner

Susan Weingartner

Sea Shepherd is pleased to announce the appointment of Susan Weingartner to our esteemed Board of Directors.

"Susan will be a major asset," said Founder and President, Captain Paul Watson. "She has already demonstrated her expertise at fundraising [and] is a very hands on and effective networker . . . [W]e are privileged to have her join our Board."

Trained as an actress and dancer, Susan is also an accomplished public speaker and frequent Mistress of Ceremonies at various film screenings and conferences. She is a member of the Genesis Awards screening committee and a co-producer of numerous ground-breaking documentaries. Susan is a passionate supporter of Sea Shepherd, believing in the absolute necessity for direct action within the marine conservation movement.

Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Susan!

There is much work to be done, but with your help, we will continue to fight for marine wildlife all over the world. As we prepare for this year's Antarctic whale defense campaign, Operation Migaloo, your continued support ensures that we will be positioned and fully outfitted to head from Australia to the waters of the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary to oppose illegal Japanese whaling. The whales are counting on us for protection, and I thank-you for getting us there.

For the oceans,
Watson Signature
