Chomsky says U.S. backing of continued Israeli occupation and annexation of Palestinian land is the biggest obstacle to peace. He says: ³The crimes against PalestiniansŠ are so shocking that the only emotionally valid reaction is rage and a call for extreme actions. But that does not help the victims. And, in fact, it¹s likely to harm them. We have to face the reality that our actions have consequences, and they have to be adapted to real-world circumstances, difficult as it may be to stay calm in the face of shameful crimes in which we are directly and crucially implicated.² Listen/Watch/Read http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=07/11/27/1547221 * Fmr. South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu: Israel Should Heed Lessons of Scripture -- and Apartheid * The South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu was a key leader in the South African fight against apartheid. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984 and today continues to speak around the globe for peace and justice. Denouncing the U.S.-backed occupation of Palestinian land, Tutu says Israel and its supporters should follow biblical tradition of ³forever taking the side of the weak, the oppressed, the downtrodden against the kings and the powerful oppressors.² Listen/Watch/Read http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=07/11/27/1547230 * Headlines for November 27, 2007 * - Bush to Restate Israeli Annexation Backing, Right of Return Rejection - U.S.-Iraqi Agreement Lays Ground for Long-Term Occupation - 4 Iraqis Killed in U.S. Shooting - Iraqi Police Named in Killings of Journalist¹s Relatives - Putin Accuses U.S. of Vote Interference - Youth, Police Clash in Paris Suburbs - Lott Steps Down Before Lobby Rules Take Effect Listen/Watch/Read http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=07/11/27/1546258 = = = = = = = = = Democracy Now!'s daily news summaries are now available in Spanish: Read Tuesday, November 27, 2007: http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=07/11/27/1815250 To subscribe to these "Titulares de Hoy" by email, send a blank message to: boletin-sub@list.democracynow.org = = = = = = = = = COMING UP ON DEMOCRACY NOW!
