Over $50 billion in federal loan guarantees for new nuclear power reactors in the next two years alone, currently proposed in impending congressional energy legislation, could strand taxpayers with more than 50% of the financial risks.

Environmental groups have teamed with taxpayer organizations to urge House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and their colleagues to terminate this enormous subsidy that absolves the 50-year-old and already heavily subsidized nuclear industry from its longstanding fiscal responsibilities.

Kevin Kamps is part of a team active on Capital Hill and at the grassroots in efforts to divert funding away from dangerous, dirty, and expensive nuclear power and toward real energy solutions to the climate crisis including renewable energy and energy efficiency.
