US Press Censors SSRI-link to Finnish High Shcool Massacre Date: Thu, 8 Nov 2007 08:36:35 -0600 (CST) ALLIANCE FOR HUMAN RESEARCH PROTECTION Promoting Openness, Full Disclosure, and Accountability http://www.ahrp.org and http://ahrp.blogspot.com FYI The headlines in the Finnish Press (below) about a shooting rampage by an 18-year old High School student, Pekka-Eric Auvinen. Before killing six students, the head teacher and a nurse, and turning the gun on himself, Auvinen indicated that he "ate SSRI antidepressants" which, he said, made him feel "aggressive." Auvinen died. One can only speculate why major news outlets outside of Finland--CNN, Yahoo, Reuters, BBC--failed to report all facts provided by the Finnish sources--including Auvinen's own statements in a video on YouTube about his unsuccessful treatment with SSRIs. The New York Times quotes itself from a report about a German school shooting rampage in 2002: "Stunned and grieving, some Europeans have taken to re-examining their societies, fretting that they have lost the communal warmth that once prevailed outside large cities. Instead, they fear they are leaving their frailest citizens feeling isolated in an indifferent, money-driven marketplace, which is widely described as an American pathology spreading with globalization." Another "American pathology spreading with globalization" is the irresponsible use of psychotropic drugs--such as the SSRI antidepressants and antipsychotics--that both sweep away self-regulating internal inhibitions while triggering explosive acts of violence and murderous behavior! See astonishing list: http://www.ssristories.com/index.php But for the press to report honestly about the documented dangers posed by these widely prescribed psychoactive drugs might undercut Big Pharma's aggressive "money-driven" marketing--and its advertising expenditures in the news media. Pekka-Eric Auvinen, 18, was known to support radical causes and he carried out his massacre on Wednesday's 90th anniversary of the Bolshevik revolution in Russia. Flags were at half mast on the presidential palace and government headquarters and all public buildings in line with an order made by Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen at a crisis cabinet meeting in the hours after the shooting. The public followed suit with many homeowners also putting flags at half mast outside their homes. Auvinen filmed a warning of his plan which was placed on the Youtube.com website. He shot dead five youths and a girl, the female head teacher and a nurse at the Jokela High School in the small town of Tuusula, about 40 kilometers (25 miles) north of Helsinki. None have yet been officially identified. Auvinen shot himself in the head and died from his injuries during the night, authorities announced. The teenager was known to support radical causes, classmates and teachers said. The Finnish press highlighted how the November 7 date of the massacre, which has gone down as one of the worst tragedies in Finland's recent history, was also the anniversary of the Bolshevik takeover in Russia.
