IPS-English U.N.-UAE: Call for placing ICT at disposal of development goals Date: Tue, 06 Nov 2007 15:48:59 -0800 Att.Editors: The following item is from the Emirates News Agency (WAM) NEW YORK, Nov. 6 (WAM) - The United Arab Emirates (UAE) called on the international community to mobilise information technology and communications (ICT) to serve development goals in developing countries and double international efforts in this respect to achieve best results. “Bridging the digital divide between advanced and developing nations will tremendously contribute to laying down solid foundations for true partnership and cooperation in development fields and achieve security, stability and prosperity for nations of the world”, said Mohammed Mubarak Al Khaili, member of the UAE permanent delegation to the U.N. before the General Assembly’s committee on ICT and development. He also called for implementing recommendations issued by various U.N. and other relevant international conferences on ICT which stressed the need for providing those countries with financial and technological resources so as to build their infrastructure and train human capital so to serve development goals.
