Newsweek reported on Clinton documents "still under lock and key," but not that 10,000 will likely become public in 2008
A Newsweek article reported that "National Archives documents obtained by NEWSWEEK and interviews with Archives officials indicate that the vast majority of the Clintons' health-care task-force records are still under lock and key in Little Rock -- and might stay that way for some time." But the article did not report that approximately 10,000 pages of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's documents are already likely to become public in 2008 in addition to thousands of Clinton documents that have already been released. Read more

NY Times' Bumiller falsely suggested Clinton or Obama campaigns say women should not be treated equally
In a New York Times article, Elisabeth Bumiller asserted: "Senators Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama tangled on Friday over whether women should be treated equally to men in the boxing ring of presidential politics. At the same time, Mrs. Clinton elaborated on the 'pile-on politics' video her campaign prepared, which showed her under assault from the six male candidates at the Democratic debate on Tuesday." However, none of the quotes Bumiller provided in the article support the suggestion that either the Clinton campaign or the Obama campaign had asserted that women should not "be treated equally to men in the boxing ring of presidential politics." War in Iraq

NY Times reported civilian causalities "decline[d] sharply" in Baghdad, ignored ethnic cleansing as possible cause
A New York Times article reported that "[a]lthough violence persisted outside Baghdad, civilian casualties in the capital appeared to decline sharply recently, with 317 civilians killed in October," adding that this number represented "a drop of more than 50 percent from August, when 656 civilians were killed, according to statistics gathered by the Interior Ministry." Yet the article did not mention that ethnic cleansing may account for the decrease in civilian casualties, as noted by a number of other media outlets and the Government Accountability Office's director of international affairs and trade. Taxes

On PBS, Slate's Dickerson claimed GOP can say "Democrats are going to raise taxes" with AMT fix
On PBS' Washington Week, John Dickerson asserted that there will "perhaps [be] a tax increase to fix the alternative minimum tax," which he claimed "gets the Republicans very exercised and excited" because they "can go around talking about how Democrats are going to raise taxes." In fact, Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY) has authored a proposal that would, according to the accompanying press release, "provide tax relief to more than 90 million working families through a permanent repeal of the individual alternative minimum tax (AMT) and enhancement of other tax benefits." The press release also stated that Rangel's plan is "entirely revenue-neutral." Read more
