Eleven Years of Infoshop News Date: Sun, 30 Dec 2007 15:22:40 -0600 (CST) Eleven Years of Infoshop News We can't let 2007 ring out here at Infoshop News without a little celebration of the fact that December marks our eleventh anniversary. The larger Infoshop.org project went online in January 1995. Infoshop News got its start on December 5, 2006 with two stories posted, one of which was an update on state repression of Italian anarchists. There were only two stories posted that month, but starting in January 1997, several stories were posted to the website every day or every few days. Back in those days, you still had to post pages to a website one by one--there weren't any fancy open source content management software like there is today. But in that first year of operations, Infoshop News posted stories about anarchists around the world, including many stories about anarchist protests and legal battles. Infoshop News informed our readers that charges had been dropped against anarchists arrested at the 1996 DNC convention in Chicago. We brought news about anti-capitalist, anti-summit protest in Europe. In 1997, Infoshop News covered the ongoing McLibel Trial, the arrest of Food Not Bombs founder Keith McHenry, the surging pirate radio movement, the mass arrest of over 200 Critical Mass riders in San Francisco, Lorenzo Komboa Ervin's deportation from Australia and much more.
