Nothing annoys O'Reilly, Limbaugh, & Coulter more... Date: Tue, 11 Dec 2007 18:52:58 UT
Media Matters December 11, 2007

Dear Friend,

The unprecedented success that we've had this year combating conservative misinformation has certainly captured the attention of right-wing conservatives. Nothing angers them more than having their lies, propaganda, and distortions exposed for what they are, and when they can't dispute the facts, they attack the messenger.

Media Matters for America has been in the crosshairs of the conservative movement all year, and we need your help to fight back against these right-wing smears so that we can continue exposing their lies and deceptions in 2008.

Here are just a few examples of the attacks that conservatives have leveled against Media Matters this year:

"[T]his character that they quote is from a radical homosexual group that continuously tries to get me fired, and they're never going to succeed. The noose will wind up around their neck, not mine."
-- Nationally syndicated radio host Michael Savage, who has previously referred to Media Matters as "a group of gay Mafioso" and "a gay smear sheet."

"[A]t this point, this guy has emerged as the biggest villain, in my opinion, in the country."
-- Fox News and nationally syndicated radio host Bill O'Reilly lashing out at me personally -- he's also called me "a hatchet man."

"Stalinists Have Taken Over the Left. They've gone beyond ideology to totalitarianism."
-- The headline on nationally syndicated radio host Rush Limbaugh's website above an image of former Soviet dictator Josef Stalin with a Media Matters logo over the left breast pocket of his uniform.

"I suppose now that Don Imus is gone, they've assigned the vegan lesbian transsexual 'interspecies erotica' devotee they had monitoring the Imus show to monitor my site."
-- Right-wing pundit Debbie Schlussel, who has also claimed that Media Matters is "Nazi-funded."

"You're unlikely to find a more dishonest machine than Media Matters. Their entire operation involves listening to conservative talk radio and television commentators, taking anything out of context that they can, and running the host through the mud. They are professional smear merchants who routinely attack Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Neil Cavuto."
-- Family Security Matters, declaring Media Matters the "most dangerous organization" in America just ahead of "colleges and universities," the second most dangerous.

"I have lived on the other side of the gun barrel pointed by Media Matters for America for the better part of three years, and I know what it feels like when a bunch of crackpots with keyboards pull the trigger."
-- Melanie Morgan, co-host of KSFO's Lee Rodgers & Melanie Morgan Program, comparing Media Matters to the Virginia Tech gunman.

Help us continue to fight against these right-wing attacks as we work to rid the media of conservative misinformation. Thank you again for your continued enthusiasm for our work. I hope we can count on your generous support for the coming year.
