[fpn_atrocities] 16 days campaign, gang rapes abounding, Leapfrog games instead of maternal healthcare and more on the FPN blog Date: Fri, 30 Nov 2007 09:23:07 -0600 (CST) Once again, the FPN blog has been sizzling. I've tried to group posts by topic below, which should help some. A number of these posts have been reprinted/linked on other sites, driving a tremendous number of new visitors to the blog. In the last week we've also gotten noticed by some rather unusual suspects, notably Advertising Age, http://www.spinwatch.org/content/view/4414/9/ and Michelle Malkin's blog, http://hotair.com/archives/2007/11/27/saudi-gang-rape-victim-speaks/. One point that should be noted-the Saudi gang rape case has received a lot of attention, and everything I've blogged about it has circulated widely. However, please note that directly below those stories are 2 other gang rape stories, one in Japan (involving U.S. Marines) and the other in Brazil. Those 2 stories have elicited very little interest from readers of this blog or other sites. One other story I'd like to bring to your attention--the HHS uses funds earmarked for maternal healthcare in Afghanistan to buy Leapfrog games...call your Congress folk, this is outrageous. --Lucinda 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence Blogathon http://www.feministpeacenetwork.org/2007/11/23/16-days-of-activism-against-gender-violence-blogathon/ 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence Observed Around the World http://www.feministpeacenetwork.org/2007/11/26/16-days-of-activism-against-gender-violence-observed-around-the-world/ Occupy All Spaces http://www.feministpeacenetwork.org/2007/11/26/occupy-all-spaces/ Making The Elimination of Violence Against Women a Reality http://www.feministpeacenetwork.org/2007/11/23/making-the-elimination-of-violence-against-women-a-reality/ 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence in Fiji http://www.feministpeacenetwork.org/2007/11/23/16-days-of-activism-against-gender-violence-in-fiji/ Spare Us the Misogynist Platitudes http://www.feministpeacenetwork.org/2007/11/27/spare-us-the-misogynist-platitudes/ Violence Against Women is Okay As Long As You're a U.S. Ally http://www.feministpeacenetwork.org/2007/11/23/violence-against-women-is-okay-as-long-as-youre-a-us-ally/ Saudis Threaten Additional Sentence to Rape Victim if She Appeals http://www.feministpeacenetwork.org/2007/11/26/saudis-threaten-additional-sentence-to-rape-victim-if-she-appeals/ Saudi Rape Case Update-A Few Thoughts and Who Ya Gonna Call http://www.feministpeacenetwork.org/2007/11/28/saudi-rape-case-update-a-few-thoughts-and-who-ya-gonna-call/ Brazilian Girl Allegedly Gang Raped While Held for a Month in a Jail Cell with 20 Men http://www.feministpeacenetwork.org/2007/11/23/brazilian-girl-allegedly-gang-raped-while-held-for-a-month-in-a-jail-cell-with-20-men/ Charges Dropped Against U.S. Marines in Japanese Gang Rape Case http://www.feministpeacenetwork.org/2007/11/23/533/ HHS Spends Funds Earmarked to Fight Maternal Mortality in Afghanistan on LeapFrog Computerized Books http://www.feministpeacenetwork.org/2007/11/21/hhs-spends-funds-earmarked-to-fight-maternal-mortality-in-afghanistan-on-leapfrog-computerized-books/ Unilever Ditches Self Esteem as a Marketing Concept in Favor of Good Ol' Misogyny http://www.feministpeacenetwork.org/2007/11/20/unilever-ditches-self-esteem-as-a-marketing-concept-in-favor-of-good-ol-misogyny/ Somalia: Horrendous Violence Against Women Enabled by Culture of Impunity http://www.feministpeacenetwork.org/2007/11/30/somalia-horrendous-violence-against-women-enabled-by-culture-of-impunity/ Somali Activist Killed By Stray Bullet http://www.feministpeacenetwork.org/2007/11/27/somali-activist-killed-by-stray-bullet/ Domestic Violence Rates Rise in China http://www.feministpeacenetwork.org/2007/11/29/domestic-violence-rates-rise-in-china/ Guatemala: Killing a Woman of No More Importance than Killing a Fly http://www.feministpeacenetwork.org/2007/11/28/guatemala-killing-a-woman-of-no-more-importance-than-killing-a-fly/ Violence Against Women in Sierra Leone Continues Long After Conflict Ends http://www.feministpeacenetwork.org/2007/11/28/violence-against-women-in-sierra-leone-continues-long-after-conflict-ends/ The Violation of Women's Human Rights in Burma Continues Unabated (Multiple Items) http://www.feministpeacenetwork.org/2007/11/27/the-violation-of-womens-human-rights-in-burma-continues-unabated-multiple-items/ More Police Brutality Against Women and Children in Pakistan http://www.feministpeacenetwork.org/2007/11/26/more-police-brutality-against-women-and-children-in-pakistan/ WILPF: Middle East Does Not Need Another Roadmap, It Needs a Road http://www.feministpeacenetwork.org/2007/11/23/wilpf-middle-east-does-not-need-another-roadmap-it-needs-a-road/ Website that Documents Sexual Trafficking in the Middle East Blocked by the UAE http://www.feministpeacenetwork.org/2007/11/19/website-that-documents-sexual-trafficking-in-the-middle-east-blocked-by-the-uae/
