Ignoring polls, NY Times reported that calls to Thompson's office "showed" that most Tennesseans backed Clinton impeachment
A New York Times article on Fred Thompson claimed that "the calls flooding" Thompson's Senate office "in the winter of 1999 showed that his Tennessee constituents overwhelmingly favored removing President Bill Clinton from office." In fact, polls conducted in Tennessee around that time period showed that Tennesseans largely disapproved of removing Clinton from office. Read more

BBC's Kay: "[A]s a Clinton," Hillary must "come across as somebody who is prepared to use military action"
On The Chris Matthews Show, Katty Kay said that Sen. Hillary Clinton's "calculation" in her presidential campaign "is that she can't stand up there as a woman and sound soft." Kay added: "She knows that as a Clinton and as a woman, she's got to come across as somebody who is prepared to use military action if it's needed." Kay did not explain why being a "Clinton" would necessitate "com[ing] across as someone who is prepared to use military action." Read more

On Meet the Press, Buchanan falsely claimed Dem candidates support federal law banning smoking in public places
On Meet the Press, Pat Buchanan said of the September 26 Democratic presidential candidate debate: "I think the Democratic Party doesn't know how far to the left they are moving. I mean, they said there that smoking is going to be a federal crime in public places." In fact, two of the candidates in that debate -- Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama -- said they opposed a federal law at this time banning smoking in public places and voiced their support for letting local communities develop such laws.
