Mexico Project Launches New Transparency Web Site

Washington D.C., September 17, 2007 - In celebration of International
Right to Know Day the National Security Archive's Mexico Project
is launching a new Web site dedicated to its Transparency and Freedom
of Information Program. The Web site features a new publication on
the week-long media initiative Mexico Abierto, which launched its
first edition during the week of March 11-17 of this year.

With our partners at the Consejo Ciudadano del Premio Nacional de
Periodismo, we are now preparing for the second edition that will
be celebrated in March 2008. The Web site also includes a multi-media
section with pictures, news publications and video clips of forums
and delegations in Mexico. The Archive's Mexico Project has been
actively involved in the movement for freedom of information rights
in Mexico since 2001--a struggle which achieved its first success
with the enactment of a landmark freedom of information statute in
June 2002.

The project supports the work of citizens' groups promoting greater
transparency, openness and accountability in government. To this
end, the Archive works closely with scholars, lawyers, freedom of
information activists, NGOs, human rights groups and the press to
design strategies for advancing the people's right to know in Mexico.
