George Bush came to New Orleans on the
second anniversary of the levee failures
there.

In what I'm sure was an unscripted moment he
acknowledged that the Mississippi levee 
system - including the portion of it in
New Orleans - is a FEDERAL responsbility.

As with 9/11 and the Iraq War, the 
destruction of New Orleans was wrapped
in a blanket of lies and deliberate 
deception:

* The Feds knew about the levee failures
12 hours before they reported the fact to
the local officials on the ground

* In the intervening time, the Feds pumped
their story into the national media (starting
with Fox of course) that: a) the destruction
in New Orleans was an "act of nature", b)
no one should live in New Orleans because
it's inherently unsafe and c) the people of
New Orleans looted, rioted and generally
savaged each other in the aftermath of the
flood. 

The reality is:

* The levee failures were the cause of the
devastation 
* The Feds were solely responsible for their
failure 
* New Orleans is one of dozens of major
US cities including LA, San Francisco, 
Miami - even NYC and Chicago - that face
potential cataclysms because of their
location 
* An overwhelming percentage of New Orleaneans 
faced the catastrophe with courage, resourcefulness
and selfless generosity to their fellow citizens.
