Creating a Digital Movement Date: Wed, 19 Sep 2007 15:41:30 -0500 (CDT) Since I've started working at Peace Action I feel like we've gotten to know each other. We've continued the conversation about peace and justice that began in the 50's but has since moved into the digital age. We?re sharing tactics and resources. We're debunking rhetoric and lobbying for change. We?re doing all this and I've never spoken with any of you. What we?ve got is the beginning of a digital movement. Protests and vigils are physical expressions of our dissatisfaction and they are important, but information is our ammunition against tyranny. I aim to keep you informed so you can pass the message of peace on throughout our global village. This final, and vital, step builds our movement and unites our voices in protest. Where else but the internet can you unite billions of people? It is in this spirit I am sending you a little reminder of our current campaigns in the hope that you will not only take action but you will encourage others to do the same. Tell us about your successes and failures ? that?s how we make this movement better. Go to our Peace Blog and comment on the actions you?ve taken. ? Weapons Proliferation: We've got over 9,000 signatures on this petition to stop the multi billion dollar U.S. weapons deal to the Middle East. Katherine, our Policy Associate, has already met with the offices of Sens. Cardin, Feingold, and Kohl to present your demands. The more names we have, the more powerful the petition becomes ? please, pass it on. SIGN: http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/161/t/288/petition.jsp?petition_KEY=689 ? Iraq: We update the changes to the Defense Authorization Bill weekly giving you information to lobby your Representatives on the phone or through in-district visits. This week is busy on the Iraq issue. Please check out our newly updated ?Iraq: In Focus? for the latest amendments. Then call your Rep. on the Congressional Switchboard: 202.224.3121. Research: http://www.peace-action.org/iraq/index.html ? Building the Movement: Remember, Peace Action has been nominated for the Peace Primary. If you?ve voted ? thank you. I hope you?ll go that next step and pass it onto your digital network. If you cannot or choose not to vote please take the time to build our movement and pass the opportunity onto others. I?ll also be on my weekly internet radio show "Peace Voices" every Wednesday from 4 ? 4:30 EST ? join in by calling 916.233.4242 pin 9249420!
