Dear Roger,

This summer has been a busy and exciting time for Sea Shepherd volunteer crew members around the world! With your support, we are effectively defending sea creatures and their habitats in every corner of the globe.

In this edition of Sea Shepherd's e-newsletter you will read about our efforts to defend whales and dolphins, while continuing to safeguard the unique environment of the Galapagos Islands. I am also pleased to announce an October fundraising event celebrating Sea Shepherd's 30 years of ocean defense. You can read more about this event below.
The Farley Mowat Arrives in Bermuda

Farley in BermudaThe Farley Mowat dropped anchor in Bermuda last month after an 11,500 mile voyage from Melbourne, Australia. The ship stopped briefly at Pitcairn Island and spent a month in the Galapagos before proceeding via the Panama Canal to the Caribbean and north to Bermuda.

Along the way, my crew intercepted and confiscated illegal longlines that were targeting sharks, manta rays, and large fish. Numerous marine animals were freed from the deadly hooks and released.

Iceland Cancels Whaling Operations for the Year

Fin whaleSea Shepherd's Operation Ragnarök stands down in response to Iceland's welcomed announcement that it will not resume commercial whaling in the coming year. However, we will continue to monitor trade discussions, as Iceland seeks ways to skirt international law in an effort to sell toxic whale meat to the Japanese public.

Planktos a No Show in the Galapagos

Farley Mowat in GalapagosThe Planktos ship and its cargo of 100 tons of iron ore dust was scheduled to deploy during the first week of August.  In anticipation of this controversial project, we chose to keep our ship, the Farley Mowat, in the Galapagos longer than planned.  While waiting to intervene against Planktos, the crew kept busy assisting the Galapagos park rangers with their patrols and inspections of fishing operations.

Surfers Paradise, Gold Coast, Queensland

Come join us for a fun and informative day of whale watching!  See beautiful humpback whales while supporting responsible whale watching companies who truly care about whales.  Sea Shepherd's International Director, Jonny Vasic, will be on board.

With your help, we continue to fight for marine wildlife in the Galapagos, Antarctica, Japan, and on many fronts all over the world.
