Prensa Latina Celebrates 48th Anniversary

Havana, Jun 15 (Prensa Latina) The reasons which brought about the
foundation of the Latin American News Agency Prensa Latina are
currently more in force than ever, PL President Francisco Gonzalez
affirmed on Friday.

Gonzalez highlighted during the ceremony commemorating the 48th
anniversary of Prensa Latina that "even though our adversaries continue
to be powerful, the experience, the goals achieved and the prestige
gained all along half a century also make us much stronger."

He recalled it's been 48 years since that June 16, 1959 when about 20
young people from Cuba and from other countries of Latin America, led
by Argentine journalist Jorge Ricardo Masetti, joined forces, talent
and conditions to give birth to Prensa Latina.

After describing the agency as a milestone in Latin American
journalism, Gonzalez pointed out this communicational project promotes
the vision of Latin American reality in a different way to that of
mediatic monopolies.

During the celebration, awards were presented to workers, for their
uninterrupted labor in Prensa Latina for 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 and
45 years.
