[smygo] Terrorvision Date: Wed, 6 Jun 2007 02:23:14 -0500 (CDT) News & Views for Anarchists & Activists: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/smygo Most readers probably hate the mass media, especially the more mainstream media. They would, I expect, prefer to make Spectaclasts of themselves than Spectators (for the ignorant, see the Situationist and Situationist-influenced material at the Bureau of Public Secrets: http://www.bopsecrets.org/ .) But, as we do need our own sources of information and entertainment -- no one can spend their whole day destroying society and subverting unsuspecting strangers -- it seems like it might be a good idea to list some examples of TV that might be of interest to anarchists, anti-authoritarians, libertarians, progressives, etc. LINK TV has a lot of programming of interest. They show many documentaries from around the world of especial interest to progressives (_Manufacturing Consent_, the documentary on Noam Chomsky, is a favorite), and the daily news and interview show _Democracy Now!_. C-Span and C-Span 2 have a lot of political programming. In particular, C-Span 2 devotes the weekend to BookTV, which has a lot of mainstream writers and even outright wingnuts, but does also sometimes feature people like Noam Chomsky and Howard Zinn. The Comedy Channel has _The Daily Show_ and _The Colbert Report_. These are about as informative as mainstream news shows (wow!), and often very entertaining. Some of the short videos on Current TV might be of interest. What you'll happen to catch is a total crapshoot, though. On-line video sources like YouTube include some material of interest. Running searches on the sites should find these. Cable access channels may have shows by anarchists and libertarians. (I have satellite instead of cable, so I can't say what might be on.) TCM has a couple movies each Friday night on its TCM Underground. These aren't always really that underground, but many of the movies provide some good non-mainstream entertainment. That's all I can think of at the moment. I'll be glad to take suggestions to expand the list. -- Dan Clore My collected fiction: _The Unspeakable and Others_ http://amazon.com/o/ASIN/1587154838/ref=nosim/thedanclorenecro Lord Werdgliffe & Necronomicon Page: http://www.geocities.com/clorebeast/ News & Views for Anarchists & Activists: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/smygo "Don't just question authority, Don't forget to question me." -- Jello Biafra
