On May 10, Senators Ken Salazar (CO) and Lamar Alexander (TN) published in the Congressional Record the text of legislation they are proposing that would enact some of the recommendation of the bipartisan study group. Last week, Congress approved nearly $100 billion for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan without insisting on a change in policy. Find out how your representative http://capwiz.com/fconl/utr/1/NNFPHFFHAH/HWBIHFFIQK/1219825496 and senators http://capwiz.com/fconl/utr/1/NNFPHFFHAH/GBQYHFFIQL/1219825496 voted and send them feedback on their votes. Iraq: Help FCNL Increase Messages to Congress by 50 Percent Members of Congress have read the general opinion polls demonstrating the public wants the U.S. to leave Iraq. But on an individual basis, members of Congress do not believe that the people in their district will support them if they vote to end the war. Let your members of Congress http://capwiz.com/fconl/utr/1/NNFPHFFHAH/KYZOHFFIQM/1219825496 know how you feel and ask two of your friends to do the same. From the Hill: Immigration Update The Senate will return to the debate on overhauling the U.S. immigration system when it returns from recess on June 4. The Senate is considering a bipartisan compromise bill that may provide some important new fixes to the current immigration system, but also includes (so far) punitive, unworkable provisions that would separate families, create a permanent underclass, and exploit workers. The bill was changing daily as amendments were adopted, and changes will continue when the Senate returns. [NYTr] CNN Airs False Images on Venezuela Date: Tue, 29 May 2007 15:29:26 -0500 (CDT) Via NY Transfer News Collective * All the News that Doesn't Fit Agencia Cubana de Noticias (AIN) http://ainch.ain.cu/mailman/listinfo/ingles CNN Airs False Images on Venezuela Havana, May 29 (acn) The Venezuelan government accused on Monday the US television network CNN of broadcasting "political propaganda" and "lies" against Venezuela and asked prosecutors to investigate local American station, Globovision, for allegedly inciting an assassination attempt against President Hugo Chavez. In statements to the press, Venezuelan Communications and Information Minister William Lara said CNN broadcasted images from a protest in Acapulco, Mexico claiming that they were images of protests in Caracas against the closing of RCTV and, in a separate incident, placed an image of Chavez next to an image of a deceased Al Qaeda leader. He said the American station had gone too far, destroying the code of ethics and transmitting false material. Lara announced the accusations after asking the attorney general to begin an investigation of Globovision, reported Prensa Latina. "[CNN] shamelessly lies, because it is politically opposed to Venezuela," said Lara, adding that the network deceives and manipulates its viewers. * ================================================================ .NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems .
